–What were the circumstances of your injury? Kanako Kojima (Kojima): I was shooting in Tokyo until May 29 for a photo exhibition to be held this year. The next day, we had a pleasant dinner at an acquaintance’s house in Tokyo. I may have been a bit relaxed after completing a satisfying shoot. The house had a dog about the size of a Shiba Inu, and I love him so much that I wanted to take a picture with him before I left. But he was in a bad mood and wouldn’t come out of his cage, even though my acquaintance put some treats on him. Just when I was thinking it might not be possible today, the dog suddenly jumped out of the cage. I was so surprised that I fell on my buttocks with a “wow,” and it gobbled up my face. …… My acquaintance desperately tried to pull me away, but the excited dog bit me again on the same spot. At that moment my body went rigid and I didn’t know what had happened. Blood came gushing out, and I was stunned, thinking, “My face is going to change, what am I going to do about the photo exhibition? –What kind of wounds did you have? Kojima: I had multiple bite marks around my mouth and nose, and a 1 cm hole in the corner of my mouth on the left side. Fortunately, I was able to get the best treatment on the same day. My acquaintances knew my work, so they called people and found me a plastic surgeon who was good at suturing wounds. It was only then that I learned that plastic surgery was the right choice for facial scars. They are able to treat scars in a way that makes them less noticeable. I found a reputable female doctor and was able to take her right away.
