Former LDP Minister Satsuki Katayama, former acting representative Kiyomi Tsujimoto of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, and leader Mizuho Fukushima of the Social Democratic Party appeared on the program as guests. When Tsujimoto and Fukushima criticized Takaichi, moderator Tahara interrupted and said, “You should just tell that guy to die,” and was chided by the two. Tahara responded to Mr. Takaichi’s comment on TV Asahi’s “Sunday Project” broadcast on August 18, 2002, in which he said, “I think it was a war for security,” by saying, “I don’t want vulgar and ignorant people to talk about Yasukuni with a badge,” and “I don’t want such childish people to talk about Yasukuni with a badge. When I go to Yasukuni Shrine, I see vulgar people, with hateful faces, gathered there,” he accused. In the following week’s broadcast, Tahara apologized for using the word “vulgar,” saying that it was truly inappropriate and that he was sorry, but he went on to criticize Takaichi’s historical awareness again.
