Many of the fall dramas for 2025 are reaching their climax. Among them, the most talked-about drama of this season is “Then, You Make It” (TBS/hereafter, “Yaritsuku”). (Image) Recently, the number of favorite registrations on TVer, which is an indicator of a hit.
Second place in viewer rating, but overwhelmingly No. 1 on TVer
First, the average household rating for all episodes was 6.9% as of December 5 (Video Research, Kanto region). It was not as high as “The Royal Family” (TBS), a Sunday drama series that has captured the viewing habits of middle-aged and older viewers, and ranked second this season in viewer rating. However, it is in the online index that “Jakku” comes into its own. In terms of the number of favorite registrations on TVer, it is ranked at the top with 1.74 million, far ahead of the 1.25 million for “Good Things, Bad Things” (NTV) in second place and the 980,000 for “The Royal Family” in third place. This is a high level, ranking 5th among all-time drama series, behind such social phenomena as “silent” (Fuji TV) and “VIVANT” (TBS). It also recorded a Filmarks score of 4.2, ranking first this season, ahead of “The Royal Family” (4.0) and “Good Things Bad Things” and “A Little Esper” (TV Asahi) (3.9), among others. Furthermore, in Google Trend’s web searches over the past 90 days, “Then Tsuku” ranked first in terms of average number of searches, making it an impressive triple crown winner in the online index. This is an indication that the drama is reaching out to a fluffy light audience that searches for the drama out of curiosity, even if not enough to register it as a favorite.
Katsuo’s strong impact gives him an advantage on the Internet.
The reason for the strength of the online index is the strong impact of Katsuo Ebihara, a man who has been left behind by the times, played by Ryoma Takeuchi, who stars in the drama. His views on everything from gender roles, such as “women are supposed to cook,” to his views on love and work, were old-fashioned and self-righteous. Nevertheless, Mr. Takeuchi’s comical and refreshing performance and Katsuo’s willingness to reflect on his actions and change his attitude helped to elevate him from a sarcastic, morally harassing man to a beloved, fossilized man. Katsuo’s unbearable funniness had the power to make many people want to share it with others.
