Religious Nisei
The trouble that later led to my decision to separate from my mother had another cause that had nothing to do with work. At the time, my mother was working energetically as an insurance salesman, but in a world where the public perception of single mothers was much stronger than it is today. My mother had actually joined a new religion at the urging of a relative before I was born. And when I came back from the hospital, she became even more involved in religious activities. When I was a little girl, I never felt distant from my parents. I was still very young, so I did not have any doubts about my parents, and the religious activities that my mother became involved in were very routine. The turning point came when I was six years old. We were both in our mid-forties and it was our first marriage. My mother had me unmarried and had no memory of her own father, so this was my first “father”. He looked like Mr. Beat Takeshi, and he seemed to be pleased with his appearance. At the time, I was against the idea of marriage because I was only feeling the loneliness of the end of my life alone with my mother.
