J.K. Rowling and Emma Watson have long been at odds over their differing views on transgenderism, and in September, Rowling posted a lengthy rebuttal on X in response to a podcast in which Watson spoke about the issue. L.A.-based film journalist Yuki Saruwatari reports. [View photos] “Grown-up Hermione” when she was shedding her beautiful girl image and making a bold makeover ****.
It all started with Rowling’s “nice” in 2018
Recently, J.K. Rowling caused a media furore when she criticized Emma Watson for being “ignorant. For those who know the story, the conflict between the creator of “Harry Potter” and Watson, who became a star with the film, is not a new story, as people who know the history of the film are still wondering if they’re still doing it. Unfortunately, however, any hope of an improved relationship between the two has only dimmed. Why is that? What separates Watson (or more precisely, the main cast members of the “Harry Potter” universe, including Daniel Radcliffe and Eddie Redmayne) from Rowling is her view on transgenderism. Rowling’s perspective on this matter became clear in 2018 when she “liked” a racist tweet on twitter (now X). At first it was thought to be a manipulative error, but the following year she made her stance clear with a post sympathizing with a woman who had lost her job because of her discriminatory comments about transgender people. Rowling has been known as a feminist, and some were disappointed that she was not kind to transgender people, but she called people like her “TERF (Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist)=Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist. (Rowling has expressed her antipathy to being lumped in there).
